Bitcoin Breaks Above $80,000 US as Cryptocurrency Rally Intensifies
The price of Bitcoin (BTC) has risen above $80,000 US for the first time since early May this year. This milestone came as a result of a significant rally in cryptocurrencies that shows no signs of slowing down.
In overnight trading, Bitcoin's price briefly surpassed $80,995 US before pulling back to $79,150 US. This 25% increase in value over the past week has been driven by investors rushing back into the cryptocurrency market after a period of dormancy.
Analysts note that Bitcoin is now facing resistance at $80,000 US, having broken through its previous barrier at $65,000 US. The cryptocurrency's price had previously been rangebound between $60,000 US and $65,000 US for months.
The current rally in cryptocurrencies has been sparked by several catalysts, including the U.S. Treasury Department's intervention in the bond market to lower yields, which is favorable to risk assets such as crypto. Additionally, President Donald Trump's push for Congress to approve the Clarity Act legislation that would regulate the cryptocurrency sector has also contributed to the surge.
To continue its upward trajectory, analysts agree that Bitcoin needs to achieve a sustained breakout above $80,000 US. This could potentially pave the way for the price of BTC to reach as high as $100,000 US.
