Bitcoin Breaks Free of August Weakness
Bitcoin's August losing streak may be coming to an end as it has already seen a 2% increase in value this month. According to CoinGlass data, Bitcoin hasn't posted a positive August since 2021 and from 2022 to 2025, the month averaged losses of nearly 10%. However, this year's trend is different.
Despite the selling pressure at the start of Q3, Bitcoin has held firmly above $60k. The recent capital inflows are not yet being led by Bitcoin as its dominance remains below the key 60% resistance level. But there are signs that the dynamic may be shifting.
Ethereum's dominance rallied 11% in July, but this momentum hasn't carried into August. Instead, it seems like investors are positioning back into Bitcoin, increasing the odds of BTC breaking its historically bearish August trend.
The data suggests institutions aren't fading Bitcoin's historical weakness and instead, they're building exposure, which could mark a clear break from Bitcoin's usual seasonality. A sustained move higher in Bitcoin dominance would signal that fresh capital is flowing directly into BTC, strengthening the odds of an extended rally.
