Bitcoin Breaks Out as Traders Abandon Shorts for Long Exposure
Pantera Capital's portfolio manager Cosmo Jiang has reported a shift in Bitcoin positioning among traders and funds. After nearly ten months of consolidation, which saw Bitcoin's price decline by roughly 50% from its October peak of $126K, the tide appears to be turning.
The catalyst for this change was Bitcoin's break above its 200-day moving average near $69K. Jiang pointed to favorable US regulatory developments and announcements around increased Treasury bond buybacks as key triggers.
In an interview on August 21, Jiang noted that traders are actively rotating from net short positions to building long exposure in the cryptocurrency. This change is reflected in Bitcoin's price, which rallied more than 23% in the week leading up to his comments and reached a peak of $79K.
