Bitcoin Bulls May Fall Prey to September Trap

Bitcoin investors may be falling for the market's 'September Trap', where strong August performances precede weaker September months. Traders are increasingly taking long positions, expecting a breakout above Bitcoin's current resistance, but this optimism is not universally shared.

A recent analysis by Bitget notes that despite the technical setup implying bulls are willing to take on significant risk for potentially large rewards, not everyone is optimistic about Bitcoin's prospects in September. The analyst highlights that market participants remained bearish despite strong rally, with sentiment metrics averaging +32, compared to +72 in July.

Furthermore, the ETH/BTC pair closed August above its 20-month moving average, indicating Ethereum could be gaining momentum against Bitcoin, and potentially putting additional pressure on Bitcoin dominance. Weaker on-chain data and negative sentiment point to more downside risks for BTC, as a result of this positioning being an early signal that Bitcoin's 'September trap' is in play.
