Bitcoin Capitulation Signals Fire as Volatility Craters to Historic Lows
VanEck's capitulation dashboard has signaled eight of twelve possible extreme events for Bitcoin (BTC). The firm notes that this is a significant indicator, as it suggests that the current drawdown of 49% may be nearing its bottom. Historically, such signals have preceded major price movements.
The current level of realized volatility for BTC has dropped to 27.2%, its lowest reading in years. This is well below the long-run average of around 80%. The firm notes that this low volatility is unusual and may indicate a market that is due for a correction.
VanEck also points out that previous bear markets were characterized by major blowups, such as Celsius, Three Arrows Capital, and FTX. This cycle has not seen such events, leading the firm to conclude that the bottom this time should be shallower than history alone suggests.
