Bitcoin Consolidates at $88,600 as Crypto Market Cap Hits $3 Trillion
Bitcoin's price has been consolidating within a tight range of $85,000 to $90,000 for two weeks. As of January 2, it traded around $88,600, remaining range-bound. The total cryptocurrency market capitalization reached $3.08 trillion, up 1.2% from the previous day.
The recent outflows from U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs have been significant, with a combined $4.57 billion in net outflows through November-December. This marks the largest two-month redemption since these products launched in January 2024. The price of Bitcoin dropped approximately 20% during this period.
Despite the decline, analysts suggest that the consolidation represents institutional positioning rather than panic selling. Market volatility measured by Bollinger Bands has narrowed to its lowest level since July, suggesting a potential significant price movement ahead.
