Bitcoin Consolidation Ahead of Potential Golden Cross and $100K Target
Bitcoin's price has been consolidating after its late-August surge, with $75,338 acting as support and the area around $80,000 limiting the latest rebound. The next signal is developing below the price: the 50-day exponential moving average is rising toward the 200-day EMA and could produce Bitcoin's first golden cross since the bearish crossover formed in November 2025.
The bullish signal is not confirmed yet and does not remove the resistance that stopped previous predictions. The wider $81,500-$84,400 supply zone still separates the present range from $98,068 and $100,000. A daily close above $84,400 would be the clean breakout confirmation needed for a move to $100,000.
Standard Chartered's global head of digital asset research, Geoff Kendrick, expects investors to position for a move to $100,000 by year end. However, Bernstein analyst Gautam Chhugani predicts about $125,000 by the end of 2026 and $150,000 by mid-2027.
Other analysts have made even more aggressive predictions, including Tom Lee, who still sees $150,000 as possible this year. Citi has a base case of $82,000, while JPMorgan's often-cited $170,000 number is a mechanical exercise and not a fresh spot call.
