Bitcoin Consolidation Yields Cup-and-Handle Pattern Ahead of $104,000 Breakout
Bitcoin's recent price action has sparked interest among traders and investors as a developing cup-and-handle pattern on its daily chart suggests consolidation before a potential breakout. The handle formation, which typically signals continuation after completion, is underway according to TradingView charts.
The long upper wick on the latest daily candle indicates seller resistance at elevated price levels, while on-chain data from Glassnode shows resumed accumulation since Dec. 26. Long-term holders added approximately 12,349 BTC on Jan. 4, a 93% decline from the late-November selling peak of roughly 185,451 BTC.
Binance perpetual liquidation data reveals a five-to-one ratio of long positions to short positions, creating vulnerability to price pullbacks that could trigger cascading liquidations. However, exchange inflow data from CryptoQuant demonstrates a substantial reduction in selling pressure, with total exchange inflows dropping by 90% since Dec. 31.
The pattern projects a measured move target near $104,000 from the current neckline, representing roughly 12% upside potential. Bitcoin must hold above $89,450 to maintain the bullish structure, while a daily close above $94,710 would confirm breakout validity.
