Bitcoin Death Cross Looms as Zcash Rebound Offers Glimmer of Hope
Bitcoin's price has been stuck around $62,700 for weeks, hovering about 9% below its historical moving average threshold of $68,806. This technical formation is known as a death cross when a shorter-term moving average dips below a longer-term one, typically signaling a bearish trend.
The 20-week and 200-week exponential moving averages are currently separated by less than $600, making it likely that the crossover will occur soon or Bitcoin can rally enough to prevent it entirely. While death crosses have preceded sharp selloffs in the past, they've also sometimes marked the bottom of a consolidation phase before a rally.
In contrast, Zcash has made a remarkable recovery after its brutal 50% single-day crash on June 4th, when it plummeted from $624 to around $309. The cryptocurrency has since rebounded by 50-67% and is now trading between $460 and $517.
The price action of both cryptocurrencies has significant implications for investors. While Bitcoin still dominates the market, its technical picture is a cause for concern. Meanwhile, Zcash's recovery is built on trust that needs to be earned back fully, particularly with the upcoming Ironwood upgrade path.
