Bitcoin Defies Expectations in Strong July Close
Bitcoin has closed out July with a stronger-than-expected performance despite facing several macroeconomic and industry-specific challenges. The leading cryptocurrency dipped below $63,000 on Friday but remained up roughly 7.5% for the month.
This resilience is attributed in part to reduced leverage across the crypto market, which analysts at Bitfinex note has been largely cleared since the late-June selloff that pushed Bitcoin below $58,000 on July 1.
Average daily crypto liquidations have stayed below the typical $400 million to $500 million range seen earlier this year. This reduced pressure has allowed Bitcoin to avoid a deeper correction and remain well above its recent lows.
However, investors continue to monitor the fallout from the Coldcard security exploit, which resulted in the theft of at least $38 million worth of Bitcoin. The incident highlights concerns about self-custody and cryptocurrency security.
