Bitcoin Defies Odds as Senate CLARITY Act Passage Chances Plummet
Bitcoin has defied expectations by holding steady as the odds of the Senate passing the CLARITY Act have plummeted to 30%. The bill, aimed at regulating the cryptocurrency market, had a 60% chance of passage in June but now faces an uncertain future. Despite this, Bitcoin's price remains above $63,500, raising questions about whether traders have already priced in another legislative failure.
According to Charles Schwab, this disconnect suggests that the market may be treating delay as the new baseline rather than a fresh bearish catalyst. In other words, passage of the bill could still lead to a significant repricing of Bitcoin's price, potentially even on the upside.
The Senate calendar is running out of time to advance the CLARITY Act before its August 7 recess, and lawmakers face numerous competing priorities. With limited floor time available, advancing one major bill comes at the expense of another, making passage before recess difficult without unanimous-consent agreements to waive procedural time.
