Bitcoin Derivatives Market Braces for Price Showdown as Traders Take Cover
The Bitcoin derivatives market is gearing up for a potential showdown as traders adjust their positions ahead of key price levels. According to Coinglass, the total open interest in major futures venues stands at $54.82 billion, with Binance leading the pack with $11.24 billion and CME following closely with $9.15 billion.
While aggregate open interest slipped 0.26% over one hour and 0.38% over four hours, it remains 1.15% higher over the last day. This suggests that traders are shaving exposure around the edges rather than heading for the exits.
The options market is equally interesting, with calls controlling 60.89% of outstanding open interest versus 39.11% for puts. However, trading volume tells a different story, with puts accounting for 54.49% of options volume over the last 24 hours.
Max pain levels sit between $70,000 and $80,000, including $78,500 for August 31 and September 1, $75,000 for September 4, and $70,000 for September 25. With Bitcoin currently trading at $78,425, derivatives traders are positioned for a volatile September.
