Bitcoin Devs Find 4,962 Security Vulnerabilities in 24 Hours
Bitcoin developers are scrambling to address an overwhelming number of critical security bugs found in a recent audit. In just 24 hours, a team of 16 developers used AI tools to identify 4,962 security vulnerabilities across 390 projects.
The findings include 85 critical and 635 high-severity bugs, which project maintainers are struggling to verify and fix. The situation has been described as 'extremely bad' by one of the developers, Calle, who is behind the Cashu ecash protocol.
The audit used AI models to scan bitcoin wallets, cryptographic libraries, and infrastructure for security flaws. Most of the critical reports have been quickly verified by project owners, but the sheer volume of findings is creating problems of its own.
'There's a lot of chaos right now in the ecosystem,' Calle said, apologizing to maintainers buried in reports. 'We're getting a lot of...' he trailed off, implying that the situation is becoming increasingly complex.
