Bitcoin Digests Gains as Exchange Reserves Signal Riskier Setup
Bitcoin's recent rally has taken a breather as it digests its gains from August. The coin's price is currently hovering around $78,000, still within striking distance of its August high above $80,000. However, beneath the surface, exchange reserves are signaling a potentially riskier setup.
Binance's Bitcoin reserves have climbed to approximately 687,000 BTC, a significant increase from near 617,000 BTC in late April. This surge in reserves is accompanied by shrinking exchange stablecoin reserves and thinner dry powder, raising concerns that the market may be experiencing distribution rather than accumulation.
The recent hawkish comments from Fed Chair Kevin Warsh at Jackson Hole have added to the pressure, sending Bitcoin below $78,000 intraday and dragging other cryptocurrencies like Ethereum, Solana, and XRP down with it. As a result, analysts are cautioning that reclaiming the highs will not come easily without a reset first.
