Bitcoin Dives to Two-Week Lows as US Stocks Falter
Bitcoin's price plummeted to its lowest point in over two weeks on Friday, reaching $62,369 on Bitstamp. This marks a 3.5% daily loss for the cryptocurrency. The decline coincided with US stocks experiencing pressure into their monthly close.
The lack of a positive reaction from US stocks to Asia's relief bounce is noteworthy. South Korea's KOSPI index rebounded by 17.9%, its largest single-day gain on record, after a semiconductor sell-off. However, this did not translate to the US market.
According to QCP Capital, semiconductor shares led both the sell-off and the subsequent recovery in Asia. This highlights the growing relationship between crypto liquidity, regional equity positioning, and broader technology-sector sentiment.
Both Japan and Korea reportedly engaged in currency interventions on Thursday, while Japan's central bank maintained benchmark interest rates at 1.0%. Bitcoin traders are watching closely, as some see bear-market history repeating itself in August.
