Bitcoin Dominance Hits Record High Amid Global Crypto Market Value at $2.25 Trillion
The global crypto market value stood at $2.25 trillion on August 17, 2026, with Bitcoin's dominance reaching 56.14%. This figure indicates that over half of the total market value is invested in Bitcoin, while Ethereum accounted for a mere 10.07%.
Despite a slight decline in the overall market, meme coins saw a modest increase, with their collective value rising to $24.77 billion, representing about 1.1% of the total market. Chainlink and Monero, however, bucked this trend, gaining 13.6% and 8.3%, respectively.
Bitcoin's dominance is often seen as a gauge for risk appetite in the market. A rising share can signal that investors are becoming more defensive, while a falling share indicates increased confidence in smaller assets. The current market dynamics suggest that Bitcoin remains the top choice among investors, with its $1.264 trillion market cap far surpassing the combined value of meme coins at $24.77 billion.
