Bitcoin Dominance Holds at 59% Amid Shift to Options Trading
Bitcoin's dominance in the digital asset market has remained steady at 59% despite the shift in investor behavior following last year's deleveraging event. According to a recent report by Coinbase and on-chain analytics firm Glassnode, the market entered 2026 with lower leverage, cleaner structure, and more disciplined risk positioning.
The report, which assesses market conditions for Q1, found that options open interest has surpassed perpetual futures, indicating that investors are now hedging against further downside rather than exiting risk entirely. This trend is a significant shift from previous periods where investors were more aggressive in their approaches.
Ethereum's ecosystem is also undergoing changes, with fee compression on Layer 2s and evolving network economics diluting the predictive power of traditional cycle frameworks. The report notes that institutional sentiment remains selectively constructive, with large-cap exposure being a preferred choice amidst lingering geopolitical uncertainty.
