Cardano co-founder Charles Hoskinson has warned that Bitcoin's dominance could be threatened by its governance system and community's inability to coordinate a response to the quantum computing threat.

Hoskinson, who was also an original co-founder of Ethereum, stated during an interview with The Starting Block that Bitcoin is 'stuck in time' due to its rigid governance structure, which requires consensus across stakeholders including users, miners, node operators, and developers to make any changes. This rigidity has led to frustration among some, contributing to the creation of alternative cryptocurrencies like Ethereum.

Bitcoin uses elliptic-curve cryptography to secure transactions, but quantum computers could potentially decipher private keys from public keys, allowing unauthorized access to funds. Hoskinson believes that if Bitcoin's governance mechanism fails to adapt and compromise its core values, it may lose its position as the leading cryptocurrency.
