Bitcoin Endures Two Decades of Existential Threats
Bitcoin has endured numerous existential threats since its launch in 2009. One of the earliest challenges was the supply bug in 2010, which inadvertently minted 184 billion coins.
In 2014, the collapse of Mt. Gox erased 850,000 BTC from circulation, causing significant market upheaval.
China's mining bans in both 2013 and 2021 further tested the network's resilience. The block-size war in 2017 and the CVE-2018-17144 inflation vulnerability also posed threats to Bitcoin's integrity.
Despite these challenges, the network continued to produce blocks, demonstrating its ability to adapt and evolve.
