Bitcoin ETF Demand Surges as Macro Backdrop Remains Mixed
The inflow of $986.9M into US-listed BTC ETFs over the week ending September 4 marked a +6.7% increase from the prior week, according to CoinGlass data.
This surge in Bitcoin ETF demand comes at a time when overall market participation is cooling down. The macro backdrop remains mixed, with dovish comments from Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller boosting Bitcoin's price to its highest level since May 12, but also sparking bets on a potential Fed rate hike following the strong August employment report.
While altcoin ETFs experienced significant inflows last week, this trend reversed within five trading days. Solana products jumped 443% to $153.9M in the previous week, but only pulled in $6.2M this time around, XRP funds rose 178% to $110.5 million, and Hyperliquid funds reached $56.9M.
The divergence in flows is notable, as it reverses the script from last week when altcoin funds posted triple-digit percentage gains. However, despite the slowdown in altcoin ETF inflows, all tracked groups, including Bitcoin, remained net positive for the week.
