Bitcoin ETF Inflow Streak Snapped as Senate Vote Looms
A nine-day streak of institutional buying in U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) came to an end on Aug. 28, when investors pulled a net $201.8 million from the products.
This reversal snapped the longest inflow streak of 2026, though the broader picture still shows roughly $3 billion entering the funds during the run that began Aug. 17.
The timing is notable: the outflow landed just as Washington heads toward a Sept. 15 procedural vote that will determine whether the Senate begins formal debate on the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, a bill that would establish clearer rules for how digital assets are classified and regulated.
Robert Mitchnick, BlackRock's head of digital assets, said Bitcoin doesn't need additional legislation as part of its base case, viewing regulatory progress as potential upside rather than a prerequisite for allocation. He also pointed to the debasement trade, investors positioning against global debt and deficit concerns, as a factor in Bitcoin-specific flows.
