Bitcoin ETF Inflows Stall Amid Price Drop as Altcoin Demand Persists
US-listed spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) saw their nine-day streak of net inflows come to an end on Friday, as Bitcoin dipped below $78,000.
The sudden shift in demand follows more than $3 billion in net inflows over the previous nine sessions. According to SoSoValue data, US spot Bitcoin ETFs logged $201.8 million in net outflows on Friday.
Despite this reversal, August's overall performance remains positive, with total net inflows reaching $3.3 billion. The category's total assets have slipped to $97.6 billion after peaking above $100 billion on Thursday.
However, not all Bitcoin ETFs experienced outflows. Morgan Stanley's Bitcoin Trust (MSBT) added $9.3 million in net inflows, while ARK 21Shares' spot Bitcoin ETF (ARKB) recorded the largest withdrawals of the day with $114.9 million in net outflows.
Altcoin ETF demand held steady on Friday, with US spot Ether ETFs adding $102.2 million in net inflows and XRP ETFs receiving $26.2 million in net inflows. This divergence suggests that investors may be distributing exposure across multiple digital asset categories rather than concentrating solely on Bitcoin.
