Bitcoin ETFs Reverse Course With $390M Net Outflow
After experiencing their largest single-week inflow since April, Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) have seen a reversal in fortunes, recording a net outflow of $390 million. This shift in sentiment among institutional investors reflects the overall subdued market mood.
The 13 U.S.-listed Bitcoin ETFs saw combined net outflows of $389.7 million for the week ended August 10, following a previous week's record inflow of $853.5 million. The brief capital influx that followed the Coldcard firmware vulnerability attack in late July seems to have been an anomaly.
According to Esme Pau, Head of Capital Markets and Policy at blockchain security firm CertiK, 'Last week's net ETF outflows reflect the overall subdued sentiment in the Bitcoin market. The brief capital inflows following the Coldcard hack now appear more like an anomaly, while broader institutional sentiment remains cautious, even leaning towards pessimism.'
The recent price of Bitcoin has hovered near $63,000, representing a 50% retreat from its historical high last October. Persistent risks of rising interest rates and the lack of legislative progress on the proposed U.S. crypto market structure bill have weighed heavily on market sentiment.
