Bitcoin ETFs Surge to Record Inflows, Only to See Outflows Resume
US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) had their strongest month in 2026, with net inflows totaling $3.52 billion in August.
This marked a significant shift from July's modest $172 million in inflows and represented the largest monthly influx since October 2025.
The surge in Bitcoin prices, which climbed approximately 25% during August, likely contributed to the increased investor participation.
Investors allocated fresh capital on 16 of August's 21 trading days, with a nine-day streak from August 17 to August 27 showcasing consistent institutional activity.
The ETFs' net assets rose by roughly 31%, increasing from $76.29 billion at July's close to $99.61 billion by the end of August, while monthly trading volume surged 49% to $58.63 billion.
However, this positive momentum failed to carry over into September, as US spot Bitcoin ETFs experienced $236.46 million in net outflows on September 1, with BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) accounting for the majority of the day's withdrawals.
