Bitcoin Exchange Reserves Swell, Threatening Price Stability
Bitcoin exchange reserves have seen significant growth in recent weeks, raising concerns about the cryptocurrency's price stability. According to CryptoQuant, major platforms such as Binance, Kraken, and Bitstamp have experienced substantial coin inflows. The Binance reserve increased by 1.45% in a week, while Kraken saw a 3.48% weekly rise in exchange reserves. Bitstamp reserves spiked by 41.67%, or 3.5k BTC, on Friday, the 14th of August.
The influx of coins into exchanges has led to increased selling potential and reduced the chances of a weak recovery attempt. The Bitcoin Whale vs. Retail Delta tracks the gap between leveraged positions held by large traders compared to smaller ones. A negative value indicates whale positions are reducing long exposure, while retail remains long.
The delta fell from -0.17 on August 8th to -0.68 at the time of writing, its lowest reading in 61 days. This trend suggests smart money is opting to stay away from long exposure as Bitcoin faces rejection from the $65k supply zone. Additionally, the Coinbase Premium Index has been negative for over three months, indicating a lack of interest from U.S.-based investors.
