Bitcoin Faces Crucial Test at $82K-$86K
Bitcoin's recent price action has been influenced by the reversal of short positions after its mid-August low. According to data from Glassnode, a significant portion of the $1.4 billion in liquidated positions was due to traders closing their short trades.
This led to a 26% climb in Bitcoin's price, with inflows into ETFs totaling approximately $2.23 billion. However, despite this strong support, Bitcoin now faces a remaining short cluster between $82,000 and $86,000. Clearing this band would be a significant step towards clearing the price of Bitcoin at or above its January high.
The recovery in Bitcoin's price has also been driven by real capital following the initial breakout. Spot ETFs recorded seven consecutive inflow days, drawing $2.23 billion in 2026's strongest week. This demand reshaped ownership, with wallets holding 1,000-10,000 BTC releasing 50,500 coins, while custody-linked entities absorbed 59,100 BTC.
However, the buying was concentrated in longer-term institutional channels rather than high trading activity. To continue its recovery, Bitcoin needs widespread accumulation, as one of these cohorts falls below 0.5 would indicate weakening participation by investors.
