Bitcoin Faces Uphill Battle in Weakest Month on Record

Bitcoin's price has been under pressure since it peaked at $126,000 in October 2025 and lost half its value. The number one cryptocurrency currently trades at $63,000. Traders are wondering if Bitcoin can reclaim $70,000 this August.

However, historical data suggests that August is not a good month for Bitcoin, with a median loss of 7% over the years. In fact, Bitcoin has closed August in the red in nine out of the last 13 years. Its average August return is negative 7.49%, making it the only negative median on its entire calendar.

Two reports in August could decide whether a September rate hike happens: the jobs report on August 7 and July's inflation reading on August 12. Higher rates tend to pull money out of assets that pay no yield, such as Bitcoin.
