Bitcoin Fights for Survival Amidst Rising Inflation Metrics
The Federal Reserve's Chairman Kevin Warsh highlighted sticky inflation metrics in his speech at Jackson Hole, setting a new macro test for Bitcoin. The cryptocurrency is currently facing pressure to defend its value against a 54% increase in personal consumption expenditures (PCE) basket items that have risen faster than 3% over the past year.
This new benchmark has shifted the burden of proof onto data showing that inflation is narrowing across the basket, making it more challenging for Bitcoin to maintain its current price level. The cryptocurrency's attempt to regain $80,000 is also being weighed down by a strong US dollar and a rising two-year yield.
In contrast, the ETF channel has delivered over $1.1 billion in inflows over four completed sessions, indicating concentrated demand for Bitcoin. However, this trend needs to be sustained beyond BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) and accompanied by continued price stability above $80,000.
