Bitcoin Firms Ask AI Labs for Access to Powerful Models Amid Security Concerns

More than three dozen bitcoin and crypto firms have signed a letter asking major AI labs to provide open-source security researchers with early access to their most powerful models.

The signatories, which include Coinbase, Block, BitGo, and ARK Invest, argue that defenders are using weaker tools than attackers.

According to the letter, Bitcoin Core developers are locked out of trusted-partner programs and hampered by safety filters on public models.

The firms are asking for five things: early access to the strongest cyber-capable models, enough computing budget to run meaningful reviews, secure environments for examining private code, eligibility for small and independent maintainers, and a direct line to lab security teams for reporting what they find.
