Bitcoin Flashes Bullish Golden Cross Signal, Eyes $80,000 Breakout
The price of Bitcoin has triggered a rare and bullish technical signal known as the golden cross. The signal occurs when an asset's 50-day moving average crosses above its 200-day moving average, indicating a potential uptrend in the market.
Bitcoin flashed the golden cross on Tuesday, with its 50-day moving average crossing above its 200-day moving average for the first time in over a year. The last signal of this kind appeared in May 2025, according to an analysis by Bespoke Investment.
Alex Kuptsikevich, chief market analyst at FxPro, noted that such a signal is typically followed by accelerated growth. Paul Meeks, head of technology research at Freedom Capital Markets, identified four main factors driving the rally: oversold conditions, regulatory optimism, high leverage, and Michael Saylor's bitcoin sales strategy.
Meeks said he would be looking to see if Bitcoin meaningfully breaks above the $80,000 mark, a technical resistance level it has struggled to overcome. Katie Stockton, a top technical strategist at Fairlead Strategies, is eyeing $83,000 to $84,000 as the next key resistance level.
