Bitcoin Fork BIP-110 Falters With Low Miner Support Ahead of Signaling Window
A proposed Bitcoin fork known as BIP-110 is nearing its signaling window, but it has only gained support from 2.59% of miners so far.
The fork aims to keep arbitrary data out of Bitcoin transactions for about a year, but it lacks automatic replay protection, which could leave holders vulnerable to a type of attack known as a replay attack.
This occurs when a buyer offers a generous price for the new coins and then copies the signed transaction onto the main chain, taking the original Bitcoin too. Developer Kevin Loaec warned that this could happen if the network splits, leaving each holder with an identical balance on both chains.
Loaec also noted that large holders would likely be targeted first, as coins that never move cannot be replayed. Unchained's advice is to do nothing during a contested split, as hand-separating two balances requires experience most beginners lack.
