Bitcoin Fork BIP-110 Stalls After Two Blocks Amid Mining Power Shortage
The Bitcoin fork BIP-110 has stalled just eight hours after splitting from the main chain. The breakaway network, which aimed to limit non-financial 'spam' data like Ordinals inscriptions on Bitcoin for one year, produced only two blocks at block 961,633 before stalling.
Despite receiving only 2.53% of miner support during the relevant two-week period, proponents argued that a proposed rule can be implemented by a minority, but economic relevance requires miners, nodes, users, and markets to follow. The mandatory signaling window for BIP-110 ran through block 963,647.
The Bitcoin Fork BIP-110 creates risks for anyone holding or transferring its coin due to the potential for replay concerns. Slow block production further weakens settlement reliability and could make any market for the fork difficult.
