Bitcoin Fuels $32M Peptide Market, Drawing First-Time Crypto Users
The peptide market has seen explosive growth, with gray-market vendors receiving $32 million in cryptocurrency during the first quarter of 2026. This represents a 700% increase from the same period last year.
Many online peptide sellers now require Bitcoin as payment, drawing in first-time crypto users who are looking for experimental wellness compounds. These products include peptides marketed for weight loss and recovery, but experts warn that many lack reliable human safety and effectiveness data.
Zach, a 49-year-old marketing director, purchased 20 vials of purported retatrutide from a Chinese seller for $240 in Bitcoin. He opened an account with Coinbase Global Inc., bought the cryptocurrency, and transferred it to the seller. According to Chainalysis, gray-market peptide vendors received $32 million in cryptocurrency during the first quarter.
The market is attracting first-time crypto buyers with no darknet market history, said Sara Graham, a senior intelligence analyst at Chainalysis. TRM Labs found that cryptocurrency inflows to Chinese chemical manufacturers linked to the sector reached $41.4 million in 2025, a 20% annual increase.
