Bitcoin Governance Debacle: Quantum Computing Threat Exposes Community Weakness

A proposal to protect Bitcoin from quantum computing threats has turned into a governance debate.

The issue, centered around BIP-361, was brought up by Cardano co-founder Charles Hoskinson, who stated that the problem is not quantum computing itself but rather the ability of the community to organize a response before the threat materializes.

Hoskinson pointed out that Bitcoin's current system makes it difficult to make changes and that its governance model differs from Cardano's.

BIP-361, proposed by Jameson Lopp and five co-authors, aims to transition Bitcoin away from signature methods vulnerable to quantum computers. The proposal would freeze coins in legacy addresses and prevent users from transferring funds to these addresses.
