Bitcoin Grinds Above $78,000 as Institutional Demand Fuels Upsurge
Bitcoin's price has been holding above $78,000 on Wednesday, but it's struggling to extend its recovery beyond that mark. Institutional demand is strengthening, with steady inflows into Bitcoin ETFs and BlackRock's tax-deferred swaps reaching a volume of $5 billion.
The number of large-wallet investors, or 'whales', accumulating BTC has increased, suggesting buying activity from this group. Eric Balchunas, Senior ETF Analyst at Bloomberg, pointed out that BlackRock's recent reduction in the limit for exchanging BTC for IBIT shares to $1 million made the option available to whales.
The inflows into Bitcoin ETFs have been significant, with a total of $314.37 million on Tuesday, marking the seventh consecutive day of positive inflows. This has increased the total net asset value to $99.05 billion, accounting for 6.31% of Bitcoin's market capitalization.
Technical analysis suggests that Bitcoin needs to clear $80,000 and a swing-high resistance near $82,800 to see a sustained recovery. Momentum readings are stretched on the daily chart, with the Relative Strength Index hovering in overbought territory around 80.
