Bitcoin Hangs in Balance Ahead of Critical Two-Day Period
The next two days could determine Bitcoin's fate, according to market experts who participated in the Macro Monday program. The Fed's interest rate decision and the Clarity Act process are being closely watched, with potential scenarios for Bitcoin discussed.
Jim Bianco, a nearly 30-year observer of the Fed, stated that when the market prices in an interest rate hike above 80 percent, it becomes a point of no return. With an 80-90 percent probability of an increase, Bianco argued that the Fed may be forced to raise rates by 25 basis points even if it doesn't want to.
Bianco pointed out that long-term interest rates have risen despite two years of interest rate cuts, signaling to the Fed that monetary policy is too loose. He also noted that core inflation in the US has not fallen below 2 percent for 65 months, suggesting low interest rates have overstimulated economic activity.
Bloomberg Intelligence strategist Mike McGlone took a cautious approach to Bitcoin, citing its high correlation with stocks and increasing competition in the crypto market. He warned of a potential 'clean-up' in cryptocurrencies if stock markets decline further, but acknowledged that the technical outlook has improved in Bitcoin's current rally.
