Bitcoin Hashrate Declines Amid Shift to AI and HPC
Bitcoin's hashrate has been in decline for nearly nine months, with no signs of recovery. According to recent data, the hashrate has dropped by an average of 2% every week over the past year.
The mining difficulty for Bitcoin is also at a low point, sitting at 19.9% below its all-time high. This decline in mining power and difficulty suggests that many miners are either shutting down or redirecting their operations to more profitable ventures.
In fact, shares of publicly traded mining companies have surged by over 430% in the past year, despite Bitcoin's price plummeting by about 46%. This divergence is largely due to investors viewing these companies not just as Bitcoin miners but as artificial intelligence infrastructure firms.
