Bitcoin Heist Turns Deadly in Kyiv as Suspects Nabbed with $170,000
A brutal Bitcoin robbery turned deadly in Kyiv, Ukraine, leaving one foreign crypto enthusiast dead. Four suspects, aged 24 to 29, were arrested for their alleged role in the crime.
The victim, a 29-year-old man, was attacked at midnight on July 29. Locals heard screams and saw several men beating someone before shoving him into a car.
The suspects took the victim to an abandoned building, where he was forced to transfer approximately 2.55 BTC (or $170,000) in Bitcoin. After obtaining the cryptocurrency, they strangled the man and buried his body in a forest.
The police say the suspects attempted to cover their tracks by changing the car's appearance and plates. However, they were eventually caught with stacks of dollars and euros.
Kyiv prosecutors are seeking charges including murder, robbery, and kidnapping by an organized group, which could result in life imprisonment for the suspects.
