Bitcoin Heist Turns Deadly: Musician and Family Murdered Over Crypto Fortune
Mexican musician Jonathan Meléndez and his family were killed in an alleged attack targeting their Bitcoin fortune. The incident occurred on September 1 at their home in Atizapán de Zaragoza, near Mexico City.
Meléndez's pregnant wife, three-year-old daughter, and a domestic worker also died in the attack. However, their six-year-old son survived and was found unharmed by authorities who moved him to the safety of relatives.
The suspects, identified as Diego Sebastian 'N' and Gerardo 'N', allegedly believed Meléndez's family possessed a large amount of cryptocurrency and went to the apartment looking for what they described as a 'cold wallet' containing millions of dollars in Bitcoin. The exact value of the alleged Bitcoin holdings remains unclear, with reports citing around 30 million Mexican pesos, equivalent to $1.5 million.
