Bitcoin HODL Waves Reveal Unusual Accumulation Pattern
Bitcoin's HODL Wave data is showing an unusual accumulation pattern that may indicate gradual buying by a large investor or several entities. On-chain analyst Willy Woo examined Bitcoin's youngest HODL Wave bands across 17.5 years of available data and found no sharp accumulation spikes, despite evidence of buying near the market bottom.
The usual increases in younger age-based supply metrics are not present in the current cycle. This could suggest that a large buyer accumulated Bitcoin gradually over time, limiting the visible impact on age-based supply metrics.
Woo did not rule out the possibility of multiple whales accumulating coins but emphasized that the unusual pattern highlights a market structure that differs from previous Bitcoin accumulation cycles.
The combination of price weakness and derivatives positioning means the HODL Wave signal does not provide confirmation that Bitcoin has established a durable market floor. Further changes in Bitcoin's HODL Wave bands could provide more evidence about the nature of the accumulation.
