Bitcoin Holds Firm at $78K as Iran Tensions Drive Oil Prices Higher
Bitcoin's price remained stable near $78,000 on August 31 despite escalating tensions between the United States and Iran that led to a surge in oil prices. The U.S. military launched strikes on Iranian rocket launchers, causing Brent crude to climb 2.7% to $90.51 per barrel.
The Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping route for global oil and liquefied natural gas movements, was the focal point of concern. Asian equities declined, while Nasdaq 100 futures fell between 0.5% and 0.7%. Gold also failed to receive a sustained safe-haven bid, falling approximately 0.8%.
However, Bitcoin's price held steady near $78,000, contrasting with the sharper reaction across energy, bond, and equity markets. The cryptocurrency's stability does not confirm that it has permanently become a geopolitical hedge, but rather shows that the latest escalation did not trigger an immediate sell-off.
