Bitcoin Holds Firm Near $79K as Altcoin Pullback Tests Weekly Gains
Bitcoin (BTC) held steady near $79,100 on August 26 as most major altcoins declined in value. The cryptocurrency's weekly gains remained positive, with a 23% increase over seven days despite a 2% drop over the past 24 hours.
CoinMarketCap data showed that 15 of the top 18 cryptocurrencies by market value saw declines during the session, with a median 24-hour move of -3.8%. Ethereum (ETH) traded at $2,465 after a 1.7% daily decline but still held a weekly gain of 29%
Bitcoin and Ether recorded the smallest givebacks relative to their weekly gains, with Bitcoin's daily decline equalling 8.6% of its seven-day rise and Ether's representing 5.8%. Other cryptocurrencies saw larger losses, including XRP, Cardano, and Dogecoin.
HYPE (HYPE) moved against the broader market and gained 2.4% to reach $82, extending its seven-day increase to 41%. Bitcoin dominance reached 60.27%, marking its strongest area since early June.
