Bitcoin Holds Ground Despite Challenging July
Bitcoin has managed to maintain its monthly gain despite a challenging July that included regulatory actions and macroeconomic uncertainty. According to data, the exhaustion of forced selling has provided some relief for the largest cryptocurrency.
The consensus among analysts is that the burst of supply from distressed entities and liquidations has largely burned through, removing a source of downward pressure on Bitcoin's price. This shift in the supply-demand balance suggests underlying demand, particularly from institutional accumulation via spot ETFs and on-chain entities adding to their holdings.
Exchange inflows from known distressed wallets have dropped sharply, with the German government's Bitcoin sales completed, and Mt. Gox creditor distributions moving into cold storage rather than exchanges. The market has processed these waves, and order books are thinner on the ask side, making it easier for modest buy pressure to push prices higher.
However, August is historically a thin month, with trading desks understaffed and volume declining, which can produce sudden, vicious moves. Traders are also watching the macro calendar, particularly the Fed's decision and nonfarm payrolls report, which could swing rate expectations and put a lid on risk assets.
