Bitcoin Holds Steady at $80,000 Amid Growing Institutional Demand
Bitcoin (BTC) is holding steady at around $80,000 after rising above $81,240 on August 25, its highest level since mid-May. The cryptocurrency market is closing out the last week of August near local highs, with investors actively investing in spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs). In fact, inflows into U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs approached $2.4-2.5 billion in August, with approximately $2.5 billion directed towards these funds over the last seven trading sessions.
According to Standard Chartered, the U.S. Treasury Department's decision to increase the repurchase of long-term Treasury bonds has created a macroeconomic environment that is favorable for Bitcoin and other scarce assets. This 'debasement trade' involves purchasing gold, Bitcoin, and other alternative assets as a hedge against potential currency devaluation.
While some analysts suggest that a sustained break above the current resistance zone could pave the way to $95,000-100,000, others are cautioning that rising yields and a hawkish stance from the Federal Reserve could push Bitcoin back into the mid-$70,000 range. The market will focus on the Fed meeting on September 16, U.S. labor market data, and trends in U.S. Treasury yields in the coming weeks.
The stablecoin sector is also evolving rapidly, with the volume of payments made using cards pegged to stablecoins exceeding $1 billion for the first time in July. By 2028, RedotPay forecasts that this annual volume could increase approximately fourfold, to $50 billion.
