Bitcoin Investors Navigate Volatile Macro Environment
Bitcoin investors are entering another important macroeconomic period. Despite institutional demand supporting the cryptocurrency, rising Treasury yields, oil prices, inflation concerns, and changing interest-rate expectations could create substantial volatility.
According to recent data, Bitcoin ETFs drew USD 986.9 million in the week ending September 4, with a single day of inflows totaling USD 731 million led by BlackRock's IBIT at USD 454 million. Investors should monitor daily net flows rather than focusing exclusively on Bitcoin's price.
Monetary policy is also becoming increasingly important during September, with markets pricing approximately a 72.4% probability of a 25-basis-point Federal Reserve rate cut as of September 11. Higher interest rates generally tighten financial conditions and increase returns available from lower-risk assets.
Rising US Treasury yields are another factor to consider, with the benchmark 10-year yield climbing to approximately 4.965% on September 11. Higher yields can make non-yielding and speculative assets less attractive.
