Bitcoin Japan Bets Big on AI Economy with Investments in SpaceX, Rare Earths
Bitcoin Japan Corporation has made significant investments in various sectors of finance, including Bitcoin, artificial intelligence, and critical minerals. The company, formerly an apparel business founded in 1861 as Marusho Hotta, underwent a transformation in 2025 to focus on these areas.
In May 2026, the company invested in SpaceX through its US subsidiary, with an entry point of $122 per share and a reference valuation at the end of June 2026 around $153. The investment is part of Bitcoin Japan's thesis to invest in multiple aspects of AI infrastructure.
The company has also invested in Figure AI, a humanoid robotics developer, which aligns with its own Robotics-as-a-Service strategy in Tokyo. While no reference valuation for this position has been published yet, the company will extend its standard quarterly marking policy to it once one is available.
Bitcoin Japan has earmarked $20 million of its nearly $60 million funding for rare earth mining, targeting upstream exposure as a way to capitalize on the strategic importance of critical minerals. The company sees rare earths as scarce physical inputs essential for the AI and defence value chain, and it believes that investing in upstream exposure can provide strategic and pricing power.
