Bitcoin Japan Taps ¥9.7 Billion for Bitcoin Treasury, Rare Earth Exposure
Bitcoin Japan Corporation is a company that's made a significant shift in its focus from an apparel business to investing in Bitcoin, artificial intelligence, robotics, and critical minerals. In July, it announced a ¥9.7 billion (nearly $60 million) funding round, which will be used to purchase Bitcoin for the company's treasury and invest in upstream rare earth exposure.
The CEO of Bitcoin Japan Corporation, Phillip Lord, explained that the decision to change focus was driven by the desire to build a platform before investing capital internationally. The company has invested in positions in SpaceX and Figure AI, with the expectation that these companies will play important roles in the development of artificial intelligence infrastructure.
Lord stated that the investment in SpaceX is tracking well ahead of their entry point, but they are not looking for short-term trading returns. Instead, they see the company's satellite connectivity and sovereign-scale communications infrastructure as a critical component of the AI value chain.
The company has also invested in Figure AI, which develops humanoid robots for manufacturing, logistics, and warehousing. Lord described this investment as part of completing the picture of AI development, which includes not just software but also physical systems.
