Bitcoin Knots' Chain Split Claim Sparks Controversy with Ripple Developer
Ripple developer David Schwartz has criticized Bitcoin Knots' explanation of a recent incident involving a chain split on the Bitcoin network.
The controversy began when some nodes configured to enforce BIP-110, a soft fork proposal, continued to apply its rules even after it failed to activate, forming a separate chain from the main Bitcoin chain supported by most miners.
Schwartz argued that calling this incident an 'attack on the Bitcoin network' misleads investors and distorts the context of what happened. He pointed out that the minority chain applying BIP-110 received almost no support from miners and the gap with the main chain widened quickly, resulting in a significant difference in block intervals.
The average block time for Bitcoin is around 10 minutes, but on the BIP-110 minority chain, it stretched to hours. This showed that mining power devoted to that chain was extremely limited.
