Bitcoin Knots Prepares to Fork Again with BLAKE2b Proof of Work
Bitcoin Knots is preparing to fork Bitcoin again after its previous attempt failed. The new proposal aims to replace SHA-256d proof of work with BLAKE2b, which would make it more difficult for miners using SHA-256d to mine the new chain.
The fork is scheduled to occur on September 1, but a rehearsal test will take place on Sunday to ensure that everything goes smoothly. If successful, the final release candidate (rc4) will be released, and the breakaway network will move to BLAKE2b proof of work.
However, several questions still remain unresolved, including which exchanges, wallets, and custodians have committed to supporting the new chain. The proposal also relies on hardware that was originally built for mining Sia, but it's unclear whether enough miners will participate.
