Bitcoin Leads Cryptocurrency Market With 9% Weekly Gain
Cryptocurrencies have seen significant price fluctuations in recent weeks. According to data from August 19, Bitcoin (BTC-USD) has risen by 9% this week alone. Despite its volatility, Bitcoin remains a resilient asset, especially as product innovation expands the ways investors can manage its price fluctuations.
Ether (ETH-USD), the native cryptocurrency on the Ethereum blockchain platform, has also seen significant gains, with its closing price up 20% this week. However, both Bitcoin and Ether have experienced losses year-to-date, with BTC down approximately 21% and ETH down around 24%. XRP (XRP-USD) has also seen a rise in value, with its closing price up 10% this week.
An index charting the three cryptocurrencies shows that all three have held the top spot at various points in history. However, Bitcoin currently leads the pack. The SEC's approval of spot bitcoin ETFs from issuers such as Grayscale Bitcoin Trust ETF (GBTC) and iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) has also contributed to Bitcoin's rise.
